You can upgrade from 7 Enterprise to 8 or 8.1 Enterprise.
#TRUE SKATE MAPS PRO#
I understand there is no upgrade from Pro to Enterprise. I am sure that Chris can explain better, but I think your fears are justified. Of course, if you have already deployed the your SharePoint, Lync, etc, servers, you are a couple steps ahead of us. SharePoint drive mappings, synchronization of SharePoint libraries and lists, items that make it easy to save files automatically to SharePoint, and define what is available off-line so that they can use SharePoint when they have no Internet connection these should be defined up front. The enterprise desktop is tightly integrated into the Office applications, including SharePoint, and failure to define SharePoint features properly will make SharePoint more difficult to utilize and lessen user adoption. but we need to start on it now before we finalized our enterprise desktop. We will not doing much yet with SharePoint for a couple months. We signed a contract last week to bring in outside help to incorporate environmental factors into our Enterprise desktop, and a second one to do our initial implementation of SharePoint. My guys looked into reported registry hacks to go from Pro to Enterprise, but gave up on it.Įnterprise also requires planning if you want to do it right/don't want to redeploy a second time. it doesn't)? What about my branch offices? Do I need to build a new image from scratch and re-image 500 computers onsite /GULP /cold sweat? What does this do if not upgrade Windows (i tried it. I just downloaded the Windows 7 Enterprise with sp1 Upgrade 64bit iso from the VLSC site. Hi Chris, Are you saying there is no way to run an in-place upgrade from Windows 7 Pro VL to Windows 7 Enterprise with SA? I have an EA with SA with MDOP. Please let me know if you need any more help or need to get connected to a Microsoft partner. If you purchase new devices while you have active SA, you can transfer your SA to the replacement device.

The technical upgrade path will be a fresh/clean/custom OS install - not an upgrade install. The actual media and VLKs will be available to you via the Microsoft VLSC website. You can purchase through an EA agreement or though a Select Volume Licensing agreement - you would be purchasing the Windows 8 Pro Upgrade w/SA for rights to the Windows 8 Enterprise OS and downgraded Windows 7 Enterprise OS.
#TRUE SKATE MAPS SOFTWARE#
You don't have to buy OEM Windows 8 Pro w/SA - but you will have to purchase Software Assurance to get the Windows 7 Enterprise. With Windows Intune - its a subscription license that has a yearly commitment if you purchase through Online Subscription agreement. If you are not looking for a long term solution, you might consider Windows Intune w/SA as a licensing vehicle to SA and Windows 7 Enterprise - at a shorter commitment length, with additional product features like user/device management, end point protection, MDM and more (though Windows Intune/SCCM). Say what you want, but like any new video game, car, or other piece of technology - I expect something new and innovative to give me a reason to upgrade from what I currently own. And IMO Windows 8, a quick orientation of new features and abilities - overcomes many fears or apprehension behind using Windows 8. The "start button" is there for those users who need it.
#TRUE SKATE MAPS WINDOWS 8.1#
I will say this about Windows 8.1 though, you can easily do everything you stated in Windows 8 Enterprise as you can in Windows 7 Enterprise. The LICENSE is for Windows 8 Pro w/SA - which entitles you to run any desktop OS offered under VL. Yes they can all upgrade to Windows 7 Enterprise. Plus the yearly cost of the Software Assurance makes it harder. They do not want nor will ever be upgrading to Windows 8 which is what makes it such a hard push. So its easier to just upgrade them all vs figuring out by vote who does and doesn't need the upgrade. So if we purchase SA for the number of computers we want to upgrade we should be able to go to Win 7 Enterprise? Roughly 2/3 of our users have dual monitors at home and work from home at least 2-3 days a week which requires about 4 programs open for viewing data (Our company offers flex hours).
